  1. There was a schoolboy year when I often took the London train. Maybe I boarded in Carlisle, I don’t remember. But I do remember it crossed the Pennines and passed through Leeds/Bradford on its way south. Is there still such a service?

I can’t remember where it arrived – Euston, maybe?

It was the dreadful old British Rail, of course, but it did serve a decent lunch, to be paid for from expenses.
Ending often with Stilton and celery! Ho Yuss!

    • I lived in Holyhead in the 1980s when the Steam Trains restarted on the Crewe – Holyhead route.

I saw many of the trains arriving in Holyhead station as it was during our lunchbreak
